Alexis Fournier, Bachelor 2 student, tells us about his experience in London!
Alexis Fournier, a Bachelor 2 student from Lyon has just finished his first semester in London. We met him at the end of his stay to learn a little more about his experience.
“Coming from Lyon, I had a bit of apprehension before landing in such a big city. But travelling with my friends and finding my accommodation 2 months in advance smoothed the transition.
The adaptation to London was quite easy, I came earlier this year for a week to take part in the Bachelor 1 seminar. It was a perfect occasion to get used to the transport, visit the city, locate the campus and its surroundings”.
A different way to teach:
“Regarding the classes, at first, it wasn’t easy to focus for more than 30 minutes, but then the more classes we had the easier it got, after a month I was finally up to speed, focusing and understanding it all.
The lecturers were understanding of our difficulties in English and did their best to accommodate us. Those we had over the semester were deeply passionate about their field, which made a huge difference. They were focused on making the class as lively as possible. There were always games and presentations to help us work on our skills.
Two of the lecturers that I’ll keep in mind are Scott the English teacher and Deepak Trivedi who covered the sports management module”.
Immerse yourself in the culture:
As foreigners who spent time abroad would tell you, the best way to improve your English is to immerse yourself in the life of your city, in its culture. “I went a few times to comedy clubs- which I recommend doing for anyone willing to improve their English! You miss some of the jokes at first, but it gets better with time! I went to the secret comedy club. It costs £1 to get in, it’s a great experience”.

Best sporting experience:
“I went to see a women’s game at the Emirates Stadium opposing Arsenal to Chelsea, and the stadium was full! 60,000 people, it was another great experience. I am sure in the coming years, we will end up seeing that in France too”.
Student Union:
“I gained experience through the student union; I learned that small details make a successful event. We, as a team, took a lot of pleasure in organizing the football tournament every Saturday as well as the other events such as the Gala”.
His future:
“I enjoyed my experience in London, and I am open to every option regarding my future. Doing the 3rd year of the bachelor’s degree abroad is tempting, but the work-study program remains a great option. I am giving myself a bit of time to decide”.
