One week in London - AMOS Seminar

Events Lyon London 13/06/24

During this seminar, a bit more than 40 AMOS students, from Lyon, were present. The week was divided in different parts: visits with all the group of different stadiums, two hours of English lessons per day and many free times. This seminar was an opportunity for everyone to know more about each other, to create new friendships. The atmosphere between the students was nice.

We were located in a hostel at Elephant and Castle In the center of London, at approximately 15 minutes by bus of Big Ben, London Eye, … Breakfast and dinner was served by the hostel. For lunch time, the students went to different food shops, fast food or pubs and restaurants.

We visited four different stadiums of different sports: Wimbledon, the home of tennis ; Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park (West Ham Stadium) ; Twickenham, the Home of England’s Rugby Team and The Oval, the cricket stadium. All the guides were very understandable. At Twickenham, we even had a guide who did the visit in French.

During the free time, most of the students went out in London to visit the most iconic places of the city such as Tower Bridge, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Picadilly Circus, China Town, … And also some students decided to go out during night to enjoy bars and clubs of London. On Friday night, a bars and clubs crawl was organized for these who wanted. Everyone enjoyed these times

The weather during the week was very great: we had many sunny days although it was very cold. Some also went running in the city during their free time. It was so nice to run on the banks of the Thames, passing next to His Majesty The King house.

The two hours of English lessons were not like what we usually have during real school times in Lyon: we learned English by doing games and quiz.

It was a week when there were many football games in London at Stamford Bridge, Craven Cottage (Fulham), Tottenham Hotspur stadium, Millwall, West Ham. Many students managed to buy good seats just next to the field so they could feel the atmosphere of English football games. At the hostel, we could connect a computer to the television to watch all together football games.

Piccadilly Circus is like Times Square in New York: there is always many people especially in the evening, there are many souvenir shops and restaurants. London by night is really something to do. You can just walk with friends and enjoy or even enjoy the bars and clubs.
